Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Gleim
Hi Jessica, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my business about 15 years ago as a freelancer. I have a BFA in Art and Graphic design. I have a chronic nerve pain disorder on the left side of my face called Trigeminal Neuralgia, and I wasn’t able to work full-time outside of my house. My business has evolved and grown over the years, as I have worked with countless business owners with dreams of growth. Today, I work as a marketing and business strategy consultant. I work with people who have built their businesses around a dream. And I am obsessed with helping support their growth. My personal dream business was always to be able to work for myself from home so I could have whatever flexibility I would need to raise my kids. I feel like being a business owner (as hard as it can be) has allowed me to thrive as a mom and CEO of my household. I am able to spend a love of time volunteering at my child’s school. We’re in the mountains every weekend, either hiking in the summer or skiing in the winter. I have the time to take great care of my family without losing myself. And I feel like the best thing for kids is a happy mom, and here I am.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest challenges I’ve had to face are growing a business and raising a family with young kids. I have a 7-year-old and a 2-year-old, and I’ve been a business owner the entire time. I’ve learned to figure out what success means to me and tailor my business and clients accordingly. My work day starts after school drop off ends. Some days I have slow mornings with my toddler, and other days I have a meeting first thing. My work day is done at 2:30pm when I leave for school pick up, and then I pretty much stay in mom mode 90% of the time, and I rarely work on the weekends. Learning to put these boundaries in place for myself and not work 24/7 has taken me years to figure out. But I think I have a great – work/life/mom/self – balance.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My expertise and experience truly lies in my ability to look at business from a birds eye view. I feel like everyone or every agency is a specialist, which is great – but if you want to grow your business, you also have to understand how each part works together to meet your growth goals. All of my clients come to me because they know they can grow even more – they’ve already figured a lot of stuff out and worked with agencies and contractors – and have some from great stuff in place. But they’re not growing the way that they know they can. I come in and do a full-blown detailed audit of all things business, marketing, and finances and build a personalized custom roadmap for your next steps with your marketing strategy. My clients often tell me that I help them solve their next right problem, and I do it so that we can get stuff done. And meet the milestones they’re looking to achieve.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Be curious. Have a curious mindset through every challenging moment. Ask yourself – “what am I learning?” instead of reacting.
