Hi John, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In my mid-to-late twenties, I sought to stand out by wearing something unique and different from what everyone else had. Not having any knowledge of sneaker customization techniques, I took the initiative to spray-paint my sneakers, creating a distinct colorway. This experience marked the beginning of my passion for customizing sneakers.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Certainly not. For most of my career, sneaker customization was not widely recognized as a legitimate career. The concept was largely unknown to the general public, and those who were aware often dismissed it as inauthentic or “fake.” Even today, many fail to appreciate the artistry and time invested in the craft of sneaker customization. As a result, building and cultivating a loyal clientele has been a challenge. Additionally, it’s essential to navigate the industry carefully, distinguishing genuine supporters from those who opportunistically “ride the wave” only as long as it benefits them.

In the realm of sneaker customization, my approach focuses on designing and painting in a way that maintains the original integrity of the sneaker, ensuring it still resembles a product directly from Nike. I place a high value on meticulous craftsmanship, often dedicating extra time to perfecting every detail, from ensuring precise stitch lines and color matching to guaranteeing that the sneaker is expertly crafted to ensure long term wearability.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Committing myself to the artistry and craft of sneaker customization was a significant risk, especially with the responsibility of a growing family. Balancing the financial demands of providing for my family while ensuring I was present for them presented considerable challenges in the early stages. However, I remained confident in my abilities, believing that I could make it work and create a better life for my family. Today, I am proud to say that dedication has paid off, and we are here.
