Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Marchant.
Hi Jonathan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been in love with music and have always wanted to pursue it in some way. I’m 25 now and back when I was 19, I started going to local studios in Utah to record cover songs.
I eventually landed at a studio where we started working on my own discography. I started with one single and then continued working until now I have 8 songs out on Spotify and other major music platforms.
I can’t believe it’s possible! It is such a dream. And I’m continuing to work on more music. There is so much I haven’t explored musically, lyrically, etc that I want to try in my future songs. This is just the beginning!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been an easy road. I’ve had to deal with rejection, disapproval of creative ideas, expensive studio time, scams, self-doubt, etc. I think for anyone starting something on their own, there are always going to be struggles along the way. I’ve found myself really discouraged at times.
How can my voice or my lyrics make a difference to people? Who really cares to hear my sound when there are so many other artists out there? It’s really a struggle to believe in yourself. I always thought that wouldn’t be an issue of mine, but it definitely has.
I remember seeing a post on Youtube for one of my songs and this person stated how it was just an ok song, but could use some improvement and I was filled with shame. You never realize how difficult things are going to be when you create an idea like becoming a musician.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a music artist from Provo, UT. I make and record my own music. I’ve always been known for my love of specific singers like Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears.
I’m really proud of how far I have come as an artist: The 8 songs I have on Spotify, the amount of knowledge I have gained about music production, vocal rest, writing lyrics, working with producers, becoming my own entrepreneur, etc.
I think one major difference that sets me apart from others is my amount of empathy. I really try to feel others’ experiences so that I can better support them.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I personally have learned to be more independent because of COVID.
I was afraid of this huge crisis and wasn’t sure I could make it through, but I did. And I have become stronger because of it.
I’ve actually had COVID and it was miserable and I can’t imagine the pain of those who were in/are in hospitals with COVID. My prayers to them all and their loved ones, especially those who didn’t make it.
