Today we’d like to introduce you to Kailah Page.
Hi Kailah , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always been in a creative industry. Even in college I went to school for fashion and design. I worked a long time in retail and visual display, but got burnt out and wanted to do something that I felt was more meaningful and would give me purpose. I switched over to banking and became a loan officer for a credit union here in Utah. I did that for 6 years and started feeling burnt out again and like I was lacking in a creative outlet. I also had kids at the time and really needed something that would give me a little flexibility. I have always enjoyed taking photos, and I was showing off some photos i had taken from my phone and one of my friends at work said have you ever thought of taking people’s photos. That weekend we got our family photos taken, and I really can’t explain it I just realized getting back into photography was calling me. I had always loved it growing up, but stopped doing it once I was out of college. I told my husband I wanted to try and get back into photography so he bought me a camera for my birthday and told me to go for it. I did photography on the side while I continued working and told myself I would never be a wedding photographer that’s not what I wanted to do. Well a year later I got asked to photograph a wedding for a client of mine I did engagements needless to say I fell in love with love. Here we are today 6 years later and weddings is primarily what I do. Funny how life laughs at you when you think you know what’s best for you
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all. I think a lot of people who are getting into photography think it’s a very straight smooth road. Like you instantly pic up a camera and are fully booked and busy. That wasn’t the case for me at all. I would say it was a very windy road with a lot of bumps and tears along the way. The hardest lesson I had to learn was backing up and protecting photos. I had a super close call of thinking I had lost someone’s engagement photos when I was first starting out after a computer crash. I was full on panicking it was so scary. I got lucky and was able to get the photos restored, however I learned from then on how important backing things up and having spares is. It’s scary when you are in charge of someone’s memories that only happen once. I would say my other biggest struggle was having to learn about marketing. This was the biggest surprise to me. How much goes into marketing a business. I had to learn SEO, Ad’s, Sales Funnels, building a brand, generating leads. Who knew it took so much just to get your name in front of people when you are just starting out.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a wedding/couples photographer. I capture couple’s biggest moments from getting engaged to saying I do. I am known for creating an unforgettable experience for my couples that’s both fun and inviting and allows them to relax during their sessions to get those beautiful candid moments. My photos are warm, romantic, and dreamy which is what my couples love about my photography style. They feel natural and inviting and not stiff and posed
How do you define success?
I define success as internal peace/happiness. When you get to a spot where you can just be grateful for what you have and what you do. Where you are proud of yourself and your accomplishments and not looking to become someone else, and you know how to silence the imposter syndrome. I have always had a hard time talking about myself, but I am proud of the work I do now and enjoy showing it off, and that to me is success
