Today we’d like to introduce you to Karisa Kukuchka
Hi Karisa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Back in 2007, I joined my yearbook class, camera in hand, and instantly fell in love with capturing real, unscripted moments. By 2010, I got my first DSLR, and from that moment on, I was completely hooked.
Photography has always been more than just pretty pictures to me—it’s about celebrating people, their stories, and those once-in-a-lifetime moments. I love being more than just “the person with the camera.” I’m your personal hype woman, your biggest cheerleader, and the one making sure you feel amazing in front of the lens. There’s nothing better than seeing someone light up when they see themselves the way I see them—confident, joyful, and authentically them.
At the same time, I’ve always loved technology and creativity in all forms, which led me to pursue a degree in web development. For the past decade, I’ve worked professionally in the field, helping businesses build beautiful, functional websites while also growing my photography business on the side. It’s been the best of both worlds—balancing my love for digital creativity with the art of storytelling through photography.
I feel so lucky to call Utah home, where I’m constantly inspired by its stunning landscapes. My love for the outdoors—hiking, paddleboarding, cycling, camping—naturally spills into my work, and I’ll never say no to an epic outdoor photoshoot.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh, absolutely not! I dove headfirst into my web development career, and for a long time, photography took a backseat. When I finally shifted my focus back to photography, I had this oh no moment, realizing I was essentially starting over because I hadn’t been marketing myself.
Luckily, I had a secret weapon—my decade of experience in web development and SEO marketing. I knew how to build a strong online presence, and once I combined that with my passion for photography, things started clicking into place again.
One of my biggest challenges has been rewiring my brain from a corporate 9-to-5 mindset to an entrepreneurial workflow. In a traditional job, you have clear tasks, deadlines, and structure. But as a business owner? You’re everything—the marketer, the accountant, the creative, and the CEO all in one. Learning to trust myself, stay self-motivated, and build a business that truly aligns with my values has been a journey, but one I wouldn’t trade for anything.
Now, I’m focused on projects that excite and fulfill me, and I love creating a photography experience that feels meaningful, fun, and stress-free for my clients. It’s been a wild ride, but I’m exactly where I’m meant to be!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a photographer who’s all about capturing real moments—the laughter, the love, the in-between glances that make life beautiful. While I specialize in portrait photography, my heart is especially drawn to engagement sessions, elopements, and milestone moments. Whether it’s a couple celebrating their love, a high school senior stepping into a new chapter, or a family just enjoying time together, I’m there to document it all in a way that feels natural and true to you.
What sets me apart? I’m not just here to take pictures—I’m here to make you feel amazing in front of the camera. I bring the energy, the hype, and a space where you can fully be yourself.
One of the things I’m most proud of is creating an inclusive and welcoming space for all. I firmly believe that everyone deserves to have their story captured, and I celebrate all sizes, races, genders, and love stories. My goal is to make every client feel seen, valued, and confident—because the best photos come from a place of comfort and trust.
At the end of the day, my work is about more than just beautiful images—it’s about you, your story, and preserving the moments that matter most.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
If I had to pick just one, I’d say adaptability. Being both a photographer and a web developer has taught me that no two days (or clients!) are the same.
Photography, especially, is all about thinking on your feet—weather shifts, unexpected moments, and making clients feel comfortable even if they’re nervous in front of the camera. Instead of stressing over the unpredictable, I embrace it and find creative solutions that make each session uniquely special.
Beyond that, I’d say genuine connection is a close second. My best work happens when people feel comfortable and trust me to capture their most authentic selves. I love building that relationship with my clients, hyping them up, and making the whole experience fun and effortless.
