Rising Stars: Meet Luis Trejo of Layton, UT

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luis Trejo

Hi Luis, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Luis Trejo, I am from Queretaro, Mexico. I am 26 years old, My favorite hobby is music, but that’s another long story.

I am currently living in Layton, UT.
In 2019 I graduated as an engineer in production systems at the Technological University of San Juan del Rio (Queretaro).
In 2021 I was hired by the KIA assembly plant located in Georgia, US. Some time later a new opportunity arose and I started working in a company dedicated to the manufacture of batteries for electric cars in which I developed professionally and reached the position of supervisor, being in charge of around 60 people distributed in 4 shifts and 3 areas.
In 2024, with my wife, we made the decision to move to Utah with the intention of settling down and working on our projects.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I was born in a small town far away from the cities, people make their lives there normally, I always knew that what I wanted for my future was to travel and meet new places, new people, different cultures, learn another language, etc.
My parents and my siblings worked very hard to achieve our goals and thanks to all the effort is that I have reached where I am today and I know I can achieve even more, but I also know that I must be patient and I will be able to achieve what I propose.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a production systems engineer my knowledge is focused on continuous improvement, improving times, quality, ergonomics and other things that can influence the production process.
As a team leader my experience was especially interesting and undoubtedly my favorite part is to see how the members of your team develop and that with my experience I can guide on that process to achieve the objectives together, teamwork is certainly exciting.
I am currently working as a landscape designer, it is a very interesting job that gives me peace of mind, I like it, but I also miss working in a big company and face challenges every day.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
The decisions I have been most afraid of making are the ones that have brought me to the point where I am, I was afraid, but I am more afraid of staying in a bubble inside my comfort zone.
At 22 years old I took my first job far from my country and my family, at 24 I changed jobs, it was the best professional experience so far and without a doubt moving from GA to UT was a complicated and scary decision but at the same time exciting and full of hope.
