Hi Madison Kate, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Madison’s Story:
I grew up in Texas and was always attracted to all things sparkly. I grew up believing that I could be anyone and I had unwavering faith in fairytales and glitter. Texans believe more is more, with both hot sauce and lipgloss … and they’re right. Southern Hospitality runs deep in my soul. It’s not just a way of treating people; it’s a mindset, a warmth, a genuine care for others that I carry with me in everything I do. When I moved to Utah in high school, I struggled to find that same sense of connection. The culture was different and I felt isolated, trying to find my place. I immersed myself in beauty – experimenting with products and using my face as a canvas. I found that the beauty industry made women feel beautiful on the outside and I learned about the coorelation that has to the way we feel about ourselves on the inside. With more and more practice, I developed a sense of self and I grew a passion using my hobby to help people. Through eduction, I developed the ability to grow a business out of something that I used to believe “wasn’t a real job.” When I became a makeup artist and spray tan artist I really wanted to create a space where people felt that same sense of warmth and welcome that I grew up with in Texas. I wanted to not just provide a service, but to offer an experience – a place where clients feel comfortable, seen, and valued. whether it’s through making sure my clients feel beautiful or just creating a friendly, judgment free environment, I try to bring that souther hospitality into my work. It’s about making connections t ensuring that everyone who walks into my business feels like they matter, just like I always wanted to feel when I first moved here. Little Maddie would be very proud of where I am today – with a kitchen full of hot sauce and a studio full of glitter. I think about her often and I’m so glad that I was able to create a business that embodies confidence on the inside and sparkly on the outside.
Madison’s Bio:
Madison Kate Beynon is a professional makeup & spray tan artist in Herriman, Utah. Madison’s career began in 2013, when she became a Certified Makeup Artist and has spent the majority of her makeup career as a Freelance Artist. Madison loves sharing her passion and educating others with one on one makeup lessons, group classes & online tutorials, including YouTube partnerships with Kevyn Aucoin, Kate Somerville and Cargo Cosmetics. In 2021, Madison received her Airbrush Spray Tanning Certification and added her favorite treatment to her list of services. Madison’s clients range from the girl next door to the destination bride and she loves making all women feel confident and beautiful.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The beauty industry is a competitive environment and I have had the opportunity to work along side some insanely talented artists. It can be difficult to keep yourself grounded and remember why you entered this industry in the first place. I always try to learn something from the artists around me and try to keep the mindset of “community over competition” which is a believe that I think a lot of Utahans struggle with. The culture that was so hard for me to adjust to when I moved from Texas remains a challenge in the beauty space.
Social Media is an incredible important aspect of the business, but it can also be very dangerous when you develop the habit of comparison.
I have always struggled with perfectionism and while that is a skill that helps me be a wonderful artist, it can also hold me back from taking risks. I know that I have to push myself outside of my comfort zone to grow my business. My clients are a huge motivation for me because they push themselves outside of their comfort zone everyday and put their trust in my hands.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
When I discovered the power of a good spray tan, I knew I needed to add this service to my business. I performed at my best because I felt my best! This simple weekly ritual allowed me to enter a room with confidence and gave me a super power that I had never had before. There is a lot of stigma around spray tans looking fake and feelings sticky. I pride myself on showing my clients what a quality spray tan should LOOK and FEEL like! My clients receive a luxurious service and their custom spray tan develops into a beautiful, bronzed, healthy looking glow that evens out the skin tone, enhances muscle definition, and gives the skin a smooth, flawless finish. I use techniques that make the body look more sculpted and radiant and hide minor imperfections such as cellulite or stretch marks.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was a goofy little southerner with two different colored eyes and very pale skin. I grew up with three brothers and was always dressed up as a princess. Personality wise, not much has changed but I am a dog mom and I love wine tasting. I am most proud of my ten year marriage. My husband is incredibly supportive and he’s the love of my life. I have so much gratitude for my life and my clients.
