Today, we’d like to introduce you to Maria Alfaro.
Hi Maria, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always had a passion for eyebrows. More because I’ve gone through a rollercoaster with mine. In 2021, I shaved most of my eyebrows because I wasn’t happy with how they grew and wanted a fresh start. I realized they weren’t growing as fast as I had hoped, and prom and graduation were around the corner, so I decided to get the Ombré Brow service done.
My confidence grew so much, and I was motivated to learn the technique and offer the service to make other women feel as amazing as I did. I became a certified ombré brow artist in 2022 but didn’t start to practice until November 2023, when I met Flor Peña, who encouraged me to start again. Thanks to her encouragement and support, I’ve been doing it since then and am excited to say I’ll also learn new services from her!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I graduated high school in 2021 and started attending the University of Utah that fall. I moved to Georgia for a year shortly after and continued my education full-time online and also working full-time.
During that time, I decided to want to learn ombré brows, so I flew back to Salt Lake to take a course but then flew back to Georgia. I moved back to Salt Lake in October 2022 and have attended in-person classes since. Balancing school and my job has been the biggest challenge.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a permanent makeup artist. I specialize in ombré brows and will add more services in the upcoming months.
I’m most proud of the opportunities this field has opened for me. I’m going to school to become a registered nurse, and eventually, I want to go into aesthetics, so this has been a huge stepping stone into the beauty field.
Are any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
When I wake up in the mornings, I always scroll through my phone.
I always start by reading through the affirmation posts on my Explore page on Instagram. That’s my current main source of encouragement.
