Rising Stars: Meet Martha Garcia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Martha Garcia.

Hi Martha, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I am a mother of three wonderful children and one granddaughter. My family is huge and we are all so very close. Before I got into real estate I worked at Fritolay for 13 years, It taught me how to work hard physically. Then I went into jewelry for 7 years where I was the assistant general manager at Jared The Galleria Of Jewelry.

I absolutely loved helping people pick out their wedding rings. Then I decided to move into Real Estate, which had to be one of the smartest decisions I’ve ever made. Real Estate has given me the freedom to do whatever I want to do and to be able to be a mom with my children. In 2018, I started a Nonprofit Organization called “Passionate Wings” in my third car garage. I wanted to be able to help women like my own mother get back on their feet after fleeing Domestic Violence, 5 months after running my Organization.

It was by word of mouth that Passionate Wings started getting Television and Radio interviews, Then we were offered a building space Downtown in the Salt Lake Regional Medical Center on the 5th floor. We have everything that a woman would need to get back on her feet from Clothes, shoes, makeup, purses, hygiene items, etc. I do have a very special room in my building called The Memorial Room, that room is dedicated to the women that have lost their lives to Domestic Violence, and their family members have hung up pics of these beautiful ladies in that room.

My whole life I’ve always helped out moms and children, But my organization is built around my own mother, grandmother, aunts, and friends. Unfortunately, there is a lot of evil in this world.

And my mother was a part of every kind of abuse out there, and it started at a very young age by her own family members. So I know that being the Founder Of Passionate Wings is my calling in life, my “WHY” and my “PURPOSE”, we use my voice for the women that lost theirs. My 11-year-old daughter also started Baby Passionate Wings, She would love to help the babies that are in need. What I find kind of funny, is that someone daily will tell me I am a true angel and that I am doing God’s work.

But honestly, I don’t feel like I am special in any way, this is just what I do. I do have wings tattooed on my arms, so I tell people when I hug them, I am wrapping my angel wings around them.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Getting my Real Estate license was the most significant and proudest accomplishment I’ve ever had. I love helping people. But getting Passionate Wings up and running was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.

When you hear blood, sweat, and tears… That was me, I put everything I had into my foundation. I just know so many women need my help, so I have to keep going…

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I really love that our city has tons of organizations that pull together and do fun events for our communities. We need more people to get involved and help the ones that need our help.
