Rising Stars: Meet Nathan Grebe of Salt Lake City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan Grebe

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi! My name is Nathan Grebe, and I’m a photographer. My journey started in 2012 when I picked up my first film camera at a flea market, and I’ve been hooked ever since. Photography quickly became more than just a hobby—it turned into a way for me to document the world as I see it.

I would describe my style as candid and moment-driven. I love capturing small details, movement, and people in their natural environment. While I specialize in weddings and couples, my favorite thing to do is walk around the city, capturing whatever catches my eye. There’s something special about finding beauty in the everyday and turning fleeting moments into lasting images.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s hard to say. There have definitely been times when I’ve struggled with photography—figuring out where I want to take it, how I want my style to evolve, and what stories I want to tell. But other times, it comes effortlessly; I can pick up my camera, go with the flow, and just create without overthinking.

One of the biggest challenges for me has been avoiding the trap of comparison. It’s easy to look at other photographers—especially on social media—and feel like my work doesn’t measure up. Another struggle is actually putting my work out into the world instead of letting it sit on hard drives. Sometimes I feel like my photos will just get lost in the sea of incredible work online, which can make sharing them feel intimidating. But at the end of the day, I remind myself why I started—because I love capturing moments, and that’s what matters.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work with people in love—capturing engagements, weddings, new families, and all the moments in between. I approach each job as if I’m just a friend with a camera (and in many cases, that’s exactly what I am). My goal is to make people feel comfortable and present, so the moments I capture are real, not forced.

What sets me apart is how much I bring my street photography approach into my client work. I’ve always been drawn to candid moments—the raw, unfiltered ones that tell a story. I’ve tried the super staged, perfectly posed style, but it just isn’t me. Give me a cheap point-and-shoot with a fixed lens, and I’ll be happy. It’s about the people, the movement, and the little details that often go unnoticed. That’s what I’m most proud of—capturing moments that feel real and timeless.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Be sure to document your life- it’s too short not to.
