Rising Stars: Meet Noel Mulkey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Noel Mulkey.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
To start, I am so glad to be on this side of my story. Starting small, my addiction took over my life and developed into a $500 day heroin habit. I put everyone in my family, especially my mother, through a tremendous about of pain. The last straw occurred when I pawned my mother’s jewelry given to her by her family. Obviously, she found out and the hurt in her eyes made me realize this was not worth it. I was going to make it. So that day, I started detoxing. It wasn’t easy. I also weight, more than 190 lbs. I had to do something. As with the “addiction” community, I found another community through running and triathlon. So I went from run-walking around one block to being able to complete an Ironman. Exercise is perfect in how it makes you feel. It gives you that high but such a healthy high. Honestly, I am amazed at the community support and love I get. I started videoing my journey and sharing it through social media. My goal is to inspire others – don’t have to complete a whole Ironman but just get up and go for a walk.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, absolutely not – you have good days for training and exercising. But as I mention, the support is wonderful. I think, sometimes, the hardest part is finding the motivation to train. I spend lots of time by myself but when I push through, I realize the benefit outweighs the negatives.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Well, one of my proudest moments was qualifying for Ironman’s World Championships held in Kona, HI. This is the Super Bowl for triathlon events. Ironman asked that I sit on two panels. One was inspirational and the other was with the superheroes of the sport. I was like “me was on panel” with these folks.

What sets me apart is the fact my goal is to inspire others. No matter what negative addiction you may have. I have given the opportunity because I have built a following on TikTok with more than 1.4 million follower and more than 74 followers on Instagram. I love my supporters.
