Rising Stars: Meet Rosalind and Trey Culliver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosalind and Trey Culliver.

Hi Rosalind and Trey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi there! We are Trey and Rosa of Eden Body Care – we first found each other over a decade ago on a popular online game called World of Warcraft. We were across the seas from one another, Rosa was physically located in Taiwan and Trey was in Las Vegas, NV. We ended up starting an online relationship; we would game at the wee hours of the night, trying to spend as much time as we could together despite the time difference and his regular work hours. We would literally game all night at times and fall asleep with our headphones on with each other on Skype’s video chat!

I (Rosa) ended up going to school in Switzerland for Hotel Management and a friend had invited me to Germany for spring break. I invited Trey to come to see me so of course, he agreed. Trey gathered all the money he had, got his very first passport, left the United States for the first time, flew to Hamburg, Germany and that’s where we met in person for the very first time, it was truly a fairy tale blessing.

A few months down the line I went to Vegas to visit Trey and we ended up eloping on a whim in a Las Vegas Courthouse and we have now been married for 13 years!

We lived in Las Vegas for a while working in the corporate environment. Trey always had the passion to grow our own food and had dreamed of having our very own homestead, I guess it was in his blood since his grandpa is a cattle rancher after all.

We would always grow plants on our porch or in our small tiny backyard, but had the dream of doing it way bigger than our space allowed so we made the decision one year to move out to Pahrump, a city an hour and a half away from Las Vegas, bought an acre of bare, desert land and started from scratch.

Currently, at our humble homestead, we have 5 amazing kiddos who help with everyday livestock duties, we raise Nigerian Dwarf Goats, ducks, chickens and 2 livestock guardian dogs who protect the property! We started growing our own food in garden beds and set up a greenhouse full of fruit trees we are nursing so we can start planting them soon and start our very own permaculture homestead in the middle of the desert.

We’ve always loved natural, holistic, clean living and started on our natural healing path. We also looked into natural skincare health and were tired of buying junk/toxic soap from commercial stores and decided it was time to incorporate better skincare in our lives.

We researched how to make the best quality soaps and what ingredients will help our super dry skin, a common complaint living in the desert, and found goat milk is super moisturizing and great for the skin! How blessed are we to have our own goats so we started to make our very own soap using our fresh goat milk from our very own herd of goats. Our goat milk soaps worked so well they brought total relief to our oldest son’s eczema and dry skin, my skin rash disappeared and helped Trey with his super dry, sensitive skin and we never went back to regular body wash again.

We established Eden Body Care in hopes of providing everyone with high-quality body care products we’ve tested ourselves and truly believe in. We handcraft products that are made without chemicals, preservatives, and products that you can feel 100% safe using. Our goat milk soaps will always be our signature products, especially our Oatmeal and Honey soap!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes, we’ve definitely had struggles! We had to come up with our own recipe for our goat milk soaps that would perform the way we wanted them to. We wanted a superior product that will cleanse and moisturize at the same time, and the process of goat milk soap making (at least the method we use) is very time-consuming and it is very methodical. As you may know, soap making is an art, and incorporating farm fresh milk was very challenging. An example of this would be when we lost one of our goats, we lost at least 5-10 large batches of soap before we finally figured out it was because the composition of the milk was altered when we lost her. This is an example of how precise the recipe has to be to form our bar of goat milk soap, it is specific to our goats. Our goat milk has so much fat content that we had to find the correct ratio of oils, milk and sodium hydroxide to make a good, balanced bar.

Establishing a business is also tough, you start with a steep learning curve of business duties, making the product, staying on top of inventory and of course all the social media/marketing and customer service aspects!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our best-selling and signature soap is the Oatmeal and Honey bar which we are very proud of, this is the first soap recipe we developed to help our own family and has propelled into all our other scents. We offer this bar at an everyday low price because we want it to be accessible for everyone. We are simpletons but believe in high-quality products and highly beneficial value of things without the need to charge an arm and a leg for them. Everyone should have access to good quality and wholesome products without feeling like they were robbed!

Our company is known for our family-oriented, homesteading, health-seeking lifestyle and wants to inspire others to do the same. If you want the best quality food, then we encourage you to grow your own. Start the kids young in all things gardening, and healthy eating so they can grow up and spread the word.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I was the only child, raised in multicultural countries located in Southeast Asia and Asian parts of the world. I grew up going to International schools and travelling a lot with my family so I’ve always been exposed to many different languages, foods and most of all, the beauty of diverse cultures. I was always into music, performing arts and was the Sportswoman of the year in high school. Trey grew up in California, he was always very active whether it was skateboarding, biking, and sports. However, he had a pretty rough upbringing and he got into a lot of trouble as a kid. But through the help of God our Yah and his love he’s become the most hardworking, strong willed man and we are just truly blessed where we’ve ended up.
