Today we’d like to introduce you to Sadie Nelson.
Sadie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Thank you so much for having me! I started working in the wedding industry as an assistant wedding director at a local wedding venue. I remember the first day I worked there we had a big wedding and I was so excited to see how it all came together.
A few hours before the wedding began a couple of florists arrived with a bunch of flowers and I was immediately interested. I got to watch them work their magic and create the most beautiful atmosphere. After that, I knew two things… one, that florals are the most important and main decor piece for your wedding and two, I had to become a florist!
It was a full circle moment bringing me back to the days when my grandma and I would gather wildflowers on her farm and make arrangements for her kitchen table. It was something I always cherished and had no idea it could become my career. Shortly after I started school at Utah School of floral design. I then proceeded to freelance with local florists and learn everything I could. I had my first wedding in December of 2022, and here I am 8 months later living the dream of a full-time florist!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Just like any business, we have our ups and downs. Going to school was amazing to learn the floral basics but I did not learn the business side of things. Luckily Utah has an amazing floral community and all the florists are so helpful in answering questions and helping you get your feet off the ground.
It’s been a fun yet stressful road to making sure I am doing everything correctly on both ends of the business.
Through trial and error, you start to figure things out. I in no way have it all figured out but I will say I am a big believer in continuing education and it’s been fun to learn something new almost every day.

Yes, I would like to thank my great friend Nannette York! She has taught me so much about becoming a florist and running a successful business. I’d also like to thank my mom and sister, they are always the first ones to put down what they are doing and come help me with a wedding. And last but not least a huge thank you to my amazing finance Morgan who has believed in me from the beginning!
