Story & Lesson Highlights with Deb DeKoff of Park City

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Deb DeKoff. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Deb, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Wake up and coffee, coffee, coffee. Respond to emails.
Prep for work and take an “outfit of the day” selfie to post on my personal IG page.
Review the day’s upcoming photo session and load my car with the proper gear.
Drive two miles to my school where I teach art.
After teaching, I head out to my session, prep the clients, set up lighting, help them relax and look great, and take the images.
Drive home, upload to Lightroom. Do basic post work. Select a “sneak peek” and do a quick video reveal with it.
Plan a reveal session with client.

Oh, and head to the gym.

Repeat.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an environmental portrait photographer passionate about capturing people in their best light—both literally and creatively. Every session is thoughtfully curated, beginning with a personal consultation to understand their vision, followed by selecting a location that brings it to life. I thrive on creative challenges, approach each shoot with enthusiasm, and genuinely love what I do.

Park City is my home, and I’d love to help you create memories here!

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was an introverted child—a gangly, freckle-faced kid who burned easily in the Florida sun. Everything changed when I picked up a camera, a Minolta SRT202. With it in my hands, I found purpose—and a way to connect with people. Over the years, my cameras have changed, and with each click of the shutter, I’ve grown more confident, evolving from a quiet observer into a true extrovert behind the lens.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
“Don’t let anyone’s preconceptions or limitations define you—or let their ideas of who you should be box you in. The world is wide open!”You’ve got this!

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Honesty, morals, and ethics. Speaking the truth. Following through on commitments.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I would hope the story would be one that was recalled fondly with wide smiles. From my sense of humor, bad rapping, to mad creativity (thanks, ADHD!), I’m on a “motor” that doesn’t stop. Perhaps they will joke that I could finally “rest”.
