Community Highlights: Meet Ed Bills of PDCflow

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ed Bills.

Hi Ed, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey to becoming the COO of PDCflow has been defined by a passion for solving complex problems through technology—specifically in industries where the stakes are high.

I started my career deep in the trenches of software development and product leadership within the legal sector. For years, I oversaw the case management systems that power some of the nation’s largest court, prosecutor, and public defender offices. That experience was a crucible for learning how to build software that isn’t just functional but is also secure, compliant, and reliable enough for critical infrastructure.

I joined PDCflow in 2015. At the time, I saw an incredible opportunity to take a robust payment engine and evolve it into something much more dynamic. My role has evolved from engineering the software to engineering the business itself—ensuring that we aren’t just processing payments, but delivering a secure, seamless digital communication platform that empowers businesses to get paid faster and easier.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has certainly not been a smooth road, but the struggles have been the catalyst for our most significant growth.

One of the biggest hurdles we faced—like many others—was the onset of the pandemic in 2020. We were an office-centric culture in Ogden, and almost overnight, we had to fundamentally rethink how we operated.

As COO, I had to lead the charge in transitioning our entire workforce to a remote-first model. This wasn’t just a logistical challenge of laptops and VPNs; it was a cultural one. We had to figure out how to maintain our collaborative spirit and “customer-obsessed” focus without being in the same room.

It was a scary leap, but it ultimately made us more flexible and empathetic to our clients, many of whom were going through the exact same transition.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
PDCflow is a local software company run and operated out of Downtown Ogden. We offer payments, esignatures, and digital document delivery, so businesses move from approval to payments without friction. Send secure requests by email or SMS, automate reminders, and track every step.

We pride ourselves on our excellent in-house customer service, and thrive on helping businesses solve their payment, contract, and document workflow problems. We’d love to help any local Utah businesses that are experiencing payment or workflow operations challenges!

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Picking a single favorite memory is hard, so I’d choose a specific phase I went through as a kid: taking absolutely everything apart. Bikes, radios—if it had screws, I opened it.

I remember dismantling a brand-new bike just weeks after getting it because I needed to see how the gears worked. My parents weren’t thrilled to find it in pieces, but they eventually realized I wasn’t trying to break things; I was just curious to understand the logic behind them.
