Community Highlights: Meet Nicole Sorensen of Mtn Green Animal Hospital

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Sorensen.

Hi Nicole, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
From 2-12 years old, I wanted to be a dog. After I realized that was not realistic, I wanted to be a vet and have never waivered since. However, I did take some time between my bachelor’s and doctorate that I reconsidered for a minute when I thought that it might not financially be a good choice and I wanted a family so bad.

2013 moved to utah from Colorado to attend college and meet cute boys. Attended Weber State and met my husband, Britain

2016 married Britain. Purchased a bed and breakfast in huntsville to live in as our first home, The Valley house inn

2017 Graduated Weber State with my Bachelor’s in Zoology

2019 – sold our bed and breakfast and applied to vet school. I definitely was done with the bed and breakfast. I wanted to be a mom and a vet but I was told both together were not doable so I started striving for both and pursued whichever happened first.

2020 – started vet school through the WIMU/washington state program. Turned out kids weren’t so easy for us to have. I did my first 2 years in Logan, UT and my second 2 years in Pullman, WA.

2022 – My daughter hazel was born via IVF. Of approximately 160 students in my graduating class, only about 6 of us were women with kids at home. It wasn’t easy but it was possible

2023 – A vet I used to work with gave me a call and asked if I wanted to purchase some land from him that he was saving for a future vet clinic. Purchased this land and started working towards my own vet clinic even though I wasn’t even graduated yet.

April 2024 – found out I was pregnant with my second child naturally

May 2024 – graduated vet school

June 2024 – started a job as an associate veterinarian in West Haven, UT while I was building my own clinic.

December 2024 – My second daughter was born. At the time of the birth we discovered she had a congenital amputation of her right lower arm and hand due to suspected amniotic band syndrome.

September 2025 – Clinic was finally done. Opening date was september 2nd

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Every aspect of the process had struggles

I was still in vet school when I started. I didn’t know how to be a vet yet, let alone an owner of a vet clinic.

Time was a huge issue. Not enough time to study/work at my job, not enough time to spend with family, not enough time to work on this clinic.

Kids. It was so hard having a baby and little kids. I felt guilty not spending more time with them. I felt like I couldn’t get anything done when I was with them. Every task took way longer to accomplish.

Additionally It was so much debt to take on. I already have a lot of student loan debt so taking on more without yet earning a paycheck was a hard pill to swallow.

As you know, we’re big fans of Mtn Green Animal Hospital. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a small animal (dog and cat) general practice located in Mountain green, UT. We offer top of the line family vet care to a community that was previously largely underserved. Many pet owners in Peterson, Henefer, Huntsville, Eden, Liberty, Morgan, and mountain green were travelling long distance to Ogden or Park City to receive veterinary care. We focus on high-quality medicine, clear communication, and building lasting relationships with pet families. We do preventative care, vaccines, dentistry, general surgery, euthanasia, and sick pet diagnosis and treatment. We have an in-house diagnostic laboratory, pharmacy, ultrasound, and x-ray.

What were you like growing up?
From 2-12 I wanted to be a dog. I think my mom started to get worried that I wasn’t going to grow out of it. I see 12 year olds today and I think “that is too old of an age to be acting like a dog.” Then when I realized that wasn’t realistic, I wanted to be a vet. I loved science, and I was good at it. I was obsessed with my dog. My mom is allergic to every single animal so I was limited in what I could have but I had dogs, bunnies, hamsters, guinea pigs, and fish. When I moved out I didn’t hold back and got cats, lambs, cows, ducks, and chickens.
