Today we’d like to introduce you to Becca Dahl
Hi Becca, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey with Becca Photo began with a deep love for storytelling and adventure. Growing up in Utah, I spent countless hours exploring its breathtaking landscapes, from the Salt Flats to Lake Powell, Moab, and Zion. My passion for photography started as a way to document these moments, but it quickly evolved into something much bigger—capturing love stories in some of the most awe-inspiring locations.
With nearly eight years of experience, I’ve built Becca Photo around a documentary-style approach, blending timeless elegance with true-to-tone imagery. My focus is on candid moments, the kind that feel effortless yet deeply emotional, paired with an editorial touch to elevate each session. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of photographing elopements, weddings, and couples who value connection, adventure, and stunning landscapes.
For a lot of my adventure sessions here in Utah, I attract many out-of-state clients. I have a huge client closet called Salt Gowns, with hundreds of dresses available. Some of my adventure sessions include dresses, so instead of traveling with big tulle gowns or purchasing expensive outfits, many of my clients use my client closet. Salt Gowns has also become its own little business, offering dress rentals for photoshoots across the country.
What drives me most is the opportunity to create heirlooms—images that transport my clients back to the emotion, beauty, and adventure of their day. Whether it’s a surprise proposal in the Salt Flats, an intimate wedding in Zion, or a dreamy session under the vast desert sky, I aim to craft images that feel as magical as the moment itself.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building Becca Photo has been an incredible journey, but it hasn’t always been smooth. Like any creative business, there have been challenges along the way. In the early days, I had to navigate the learning curve of running a business, from pricing my work to marketing and managing client expectations. It took time to figure out how to balance the artistic side of photography with the business side.
Another challenge has been the unpredictability of working in outdoor locations like the Salt Flats, Moab, and Zion. Weather conditions can change, and I’ve had to adapt quickly to ensure my clients still get an incredible experience. Learning how to communicate with clients about these variables and guide them in making the best decisions for their session has been a huge part of my growth.
In 2024, I made a big investment in SEO for my website because I didn’t want to be so reliant on Instagram. My goal has been to get my website ranking on page one, so I worked with a mentor who is an expert in SEO. I hired her to teach me everything from optimizing blog posts to refining my website structure, and I’ve put a lot of time, energy, and money into making my website a powerful tool for reaching new clients.
Despite the obstacles, I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything. Each challenge has strengthened my skills, refined my vision, and helped me build a business that truly reflects my passion. Seeing my clients’ reactions and knowing that I’m creating lasting memories makes every challenge worth it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Utah-based elopement photographer specializing in capturing timeless, elegant, and true-to-tone documentary-style images. My work blends candid moments with an editorial touch, ensuring every couple’s love story is beautifully preserved in a way that feels authentic and effortless. I primarily photograph elopements, intimate weddings, and couples’ sessions in some of the most breathtaking locations, including the bucket-list destination, the Salt Flats, as well as Moab and Zion.
What sets me apart is my ability to create an experience, not just take photos. I work closely with my clients, especially those traveling from out of state, to help them plan everything from location logistics to outfits. Many of my adventure session clients love having access to my dress client closet, which provides a seamless and stress-free option for achieving a beautiful, elevated look.
If the location allows it, I also love incorporating drone photography and video clips to add a cinematic, breathtaking perspective. Drone footage captures the vast, epic landscapes in a way that traditional photography can’t, making elopements and adventure sessions feel even more unforgettable.
One of the things I’m most proud of is having one of my wedding photos selected for Junebug Weddings’ 2024 Best of the Best Wedding Photos in the World. This is a huge honor in the photography community, and it means so much to be recognized for capturing a moment that truly resonated.
In addition to this honor, my work has been featured in Utah Valley Bride, where my photo was selected for the 2025 magazine cover. I’ve also been featured multiple times in Rocky Mountain Bride, along with other wedding and photography publications.
Beyond awards and features, what matters most to me is the way my clients feel when they receive their galleries. Knowing that I’m creating images that will become treasured heirlooms for generations is what keeps me inspired.
Whether it’s a multi-day Zion elopement with a sunrise helicopter ceremony, a beautiful proposal in the mountains, a full-day elopement at the Salt Flats, or an intimate wedding adventure in Moab, my goal is always to make my clients feel comfortable, present, and connected to the moment. My photography is about more than just stunning images. It’s about telling love stories in a way that feels real, emotional, and uniquely theirs.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I believe risk-taking is an essential part of growth, both personally and professionally. Every major step I’ve taken in my career has involved some level of risk, but I’ve learned that the biggest rewards often come from pushing past fear and stepping into the unknown.
One of the biggest risks I took was building Becca Photo into a full-time career. Leaving the security of a traditional job to pursue photography wasn’t easy, but I knew I wanted to create something that was truly mine. There were moments of doubt, but I trusted that my passion, work ethic, and ability to adapt would carry me through.
Another major risk was making significant financial investments in my business. In 2024, I invested in a full website rebrand, custom copywriting, and SEO so I could build a sustainable business beyond social media. It was a huge leap, but I wanted my website to be a powerful tool that could stand on its own. I also prioritize continued education, spending thousands of dollars each year on workshops, online courses, and mentorships with some of the best photographers in the industry. In 2023, I traveled to Scotland and France for photography expeditions and workshops, pushing myself creatively and refining my craft in new environments.
Beyond education, I constantly invest in upgrading my gear, ensuring I have the best equipment to deliver stunning images for my clients. Whether it’s new cameras, lenses, or drones, I believe that staying ahead with the best tools allows me to keep improving and evolving.
Looking back, every risk I’ve taken—whether financial, creative, or personal—has shaped me into the photographer and business owner I am today. I don’t see risk as something to be feared but as an opportunity for growth, learning, and creating something extraordinary.
