Today we’d like to introduce you to Caden Taylor.
Hi Caden, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my photography journey around many years ago when my mom used to be a wedding photographer. She would spend many hours at the computer editing. Asking for my opinion on her edits for each wedding day. From there I caught an interest in it, or at least the idea of photography. So, 5-6 years ago, I bought my first camera. A point and shoot and I tried to shoot a million different angles of my dog on hikes. From there I watched youtube videos of my favorite photographers/filmmakers, Peter Mckinnon, Julia Trotti, and Casey Neistat. I learned from what they do and don’t do. How to capture a subject, and composition, lighting, what gear to use et cetera. After years of learning, I felt I had the information I needed to really start. I moved to salt lake in June of 2019 I decided I would pursue photography. It started with shoots from friends and then offering cheaper services to gain clients. Then when COVID hit I started to get more portraits/engagements business. Clients of all types from all over started reaching out to me when they came to salt lake. It slowly became my hobby that paid to extra income, then to a part-time and a full-time job. April of 2021 I gave up working for others and just worked for myself and made my own hours. Now as of May 2022 I’ve been working for myself full-time for over a year.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Not a smooth road at all. It was always the concern of family and friends that it wouldn’t amount to anything. Many doubts from others and myself especially. Learning how to promote myself. How to talk to clients professionally & friendly. Gaining clients was really hard at the start. I was just a kid with a camera is how it felt with no support from anyone. Convincing myself that I could do it was the hardest part.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Wedding & Portrait Photographer in Salt Lake City, Utah. My business is Caden Taylor Photography. I’m known for beautifully lit photos with warm vibrant colors. I make photos that pop out to the eye and tell a story with them. I’m very proud of providing beautifully stunning photos for all my clients. Making them so happy with being able to look at a photo of themselves with a smile. Capturing authentic & genuine smiles of my customers and giving them something back that will last their whole lives to look back at. I’m proud of how I’ve gotten to this point when it felt like I was the only one in my corner at times. From starting out as just another person with a camera to working for myself with no bosses, and nobody to tell me how to do anything.
What I believe sets me apart is a few things. First is that this makes me money and provides for me but, I truly feel blessed to be doing my passion every single day. I’m not just here to get money from a client but I’m here to make friends with them all. I feel like I get to do what I love first before anything. It’s more than work for me. It’s getting to create art constantly.
Secondly, I believe I capture things others can’t see. Anyone can walk down the street and see someone just as a person. I look at someone and I see the potential for a beautiful photo or story to be told through them. I see how someone or something can be captured apart from the rest of the world.
