Conversations with Craig Lee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Craig Lee.

Hi Craig, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Make Creative Design was founded in 2021 by my partner and me, built from our shared love of creativity and design. While I had always been passionate about designing, creating, and interior design, my partner pursued a career in graphic design, bringing our skills together naturally.

What started as a few balloon garlands for family celebrations quickly grew through word of mouth. Knowing we wanted to stand out and offer more than balloons, we began creating custom statement pieces, including large five-foot numbers and handcrafted light-up marquee letters and numbers. Through trial and error, we developed durable, one-of-a-kind designs, all made by hand.

Make Creative Design serves as the umbrella for Make Creative Décor, Make Creative Interiors, and Make Creative Graphic Design. Today, we design and decorate for all types of events and holidays, with Christmas décor becoming a major part of our business. At the heart of everything we do is a commitment to creating unique, custom pieces—from hand-painted ornaments to custom backdrops—that make every project truly one of a kind

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Social media is so important to any business today, but it is hard keeping it consistently going. It’s also not always easy keeping a work / life balance, because work is constantly surrounding us. We are either setting up, preparing for or designing each project. It’s definitely not always smooth—but every challenge helped us grow and pushed us to be more creative.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Make Creative Design is a full-service creative studio. We truly do it all when it comes to creativity—from event and holiday décor to custom installations, interiors, graphic design, and handcrafted statement pieces. We specialize in creating immersive, one-of-a-kind designs that can’t simply be bought off a shelf. Many of the elements we use are designed and built by hand, allowing each project to feel personal, intentional, and unique.

What we’re known for is our ability to take an idea and bring it to life in a way that feels unexpected and memorable. Whether it’s a custom backdrop, marquee letters, or a fully themed holiday installation, our goal is always to create something that feels truly one of a kind.

One of our proudest moments was creating a Grinch-themed Christmas tree for the Festival of Trees in honor of my nephew, who was tragically killed. That tree sold for $45,000, making it the second-highest-selling tree in the festival’s history. Beyond the number, it was incredibly meaningful to see our creativity honor his memory while also making such a powerful impact.

What truly sets us apart is our hands-on approach and our belief that creativity has no limits. We don’t just decorate—we design, build, and create custom experiences that tell a story and leave a lasting impression.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Originality and creativity are the qualities most important to our success. Whether that means figuring something out through trial and error or pushing ourselves to create something entirely new. We don’t settle for standard or off-the-shelf solutions; we challenge ourselves to design one-of-a-kind pieces that tell a story. That mindset allows us to grow, stand out, and continue delivering meaningful, memorable work for our clients.”
