Conversations with Magnus Niles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Magnus Niles.

Hi Magnus, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I began cutting hair at the age of 12, and became a professional barber in 2014
I have a passion for craftsmanship, culture, and creating a space where people could feel confident and respected. What started as a skill I wanted to master quickly became a purpose—serving my community through precision cuts, classic techniques, and modern style. Over the years, I’ve continued to sharpen my craft, build lasting relationships with clients, and grow my vision beyond the chair. Today, I’m proud to be an established barber and entrepreneur, focused on elevating the barbering experience through quality service, strong branding, and a commitment to culture and excellence.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road, when I decided to become a licensed barber, I had to attend school full time and also work a full time job not to mention having 4 lil girls. It was definitely challenging at times but with love and support I was able to get it done.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
One of the things I’m most proud of is being able to be as creative as I wanna be, from designing all of my own branding, to the atmosphere of my shop.

Another thing I really enjoy as a professional barber is being able to give my clients their confidence back.

I think the thing that sets me apart from others is just creating a space for my clients to feel comfortable and really listen to what they want.

Once you’ve mastered your craft the only thing some barbers forget to do is to just listen to exactly what there asking for.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Another thing I really love about being a professional barber is you can learn soo much through your clients, some of my clients are entrepreneurs, engineers, architects, etc. once they sit down and get comfortable, you can ask em anything and they love to give amazing advise. I’ve definitely learned a ton from em and are very grateful for all the advise that was passed on over the years.
