Exploring Life & Business with Kinsley Kearl of Reconnect Massage Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kinsley Kearl.

Hi Kinsley, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a teenager and young adult I faced challenges with my mental health and felt a disconnect between my mind and body. I felt distant from the person I wanted to be and often dissociated, unable to be with my own thoughts or feelings. During that time a neighbor and friend offered me massage therapy; her care was incredibly healing. It was a simple yet profound thing that made me feel grounded and present in myself.

This journey of understanding my body and mind began in earnest after those first experiences with massage. I started studying psychology at Utah State. Along that path, I read The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk and Waking the Tiger by Peter Levine. From these books, I finally had the words for what I had experienced with massage therapy: safe, caring touch that brought peace and balance to my disconnected mind and body. I wanted to bring this same safety and connection to everyone I could! So I shifted gears, attended Myotherapy Massage College, and became a licensed massage therapist.

After just over a year of working as a massage therapist, I began feeling a growing pull to start my own business. Beginning that process I was hit with a lot of self doubt that I could ever successfully pull off something so big. Around that same time, I traveled to Thailand to study Thai massage and expand my training. My experience there was transformative! Thailand taught me to slow down, be intentional, and live in the present. I realized that my self doubt will likely always nag at me, but my time on earth is far too precious to let it slip away. As soon as I stepped back onto US soil I immediately started working on my business plan. A few months later, and what felt like a baptism by fire, I opened Reconnect Massage Therapy.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It wasn’t all smooth sailing. My emergence into adulthood was so rocky. I learned the hard way how to handle stress, painful emotions, and relationships of all kinds. Happy, sad, and mad were all the emotions I reliably knew how to identify, so whenever shame, anxiety, overwhelm or whatever else appeared it kind of tore me apart trying to navigate them. I went down some dark paths before finding my way.

Even so, each one of my painful experiences brought me closer to the person I am today, so I’m incredibly grateful for the journey. I think it has helped my professional life immensely. So much of bodywork involves tuning into the client’s needs, some spoken and some unspoken. Knowing what grief, heartache, or inadequacy feel like in my own body allows me to meet others with a deeper level of understanding and presence for whatever they are carrying. I don’t think we as humans realize how much we hold our stress and emotional pain in our bodies. It’s my job to help the body release whatever it’s ready to let go of.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My mission is to help people feel like themselves again through healing, intentional touch. I’m based in Farmington, and while many clients come to me to destress and relax with traditional Swedish massage, I also offer Thai massage which is less common around here. Thai massage involves acupressure along energy lines, stretches and gentle movements, and deep compression to relieve pain and restore wellness. Each session is tailored to the client’s needs.

What I’m most proud of is offering a space where people feel safe, seen, and understood. I draw from my own journey of healing so when clients arrive, I meet them with empathy and respect. My training allows me to offer bodywork that can support both mental and physical well being.

I want clients to know whether someone is injured, overwhelmed, stiff, stressed, or simply craving a reset. My goal is the same: to help them reconnect with their body, breathe a little deeper, and walk out feeling lighter than when they came in.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I’m a transplant to this area, I grew up in rural Utah and have been in Davis County for about 3 years. The greatest thing I have noticed since moving here is the people I have met are so welcoming and openhearted. Half of all my business is because of referrals and word of mouth. Davis County has this amazing culture of sharing and uplifting local businesses and people here have been generous in recommending services they trust. So I feel a lot of gratitude toward my community and the way I have been accepted, supported, and the referral network that has made my clientele so amazing.
