Inspiring Conversations with Tyler Moore of CLOUDY

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Moore.

Hi Tyler, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Tyler and Spencer became friends through skateboarding in 2019. When we were first getting into it, we spent time at skateparks around Salt Lake City, but we didn’t feel like we fit in. Everyone seemed incredibly good and already so close-knit. Honestly, we felt out of place. You know that feeling when you walk into a room and feel out of place? That’s how it felt at the skateparks.

We did know that we had each other, and so we kept skating, just not at parks. We skated parking garages, church parking lots, anywhere we could. Eventually, our hometown of Bountiful built a small DIY skatepark. That’s where everything changed. We got to know the local skate scene and found a real community. Some people had more experience than others, but in the end, we were all learning and striving towards something more..

That experience shaped everything for us. We never wanted anyone to feel “not good enough.” As we skated more, we made it a goal to make everyone feel like a homie: welcome, safe, and accepted. We noticed how much pressure there was to fit into a certain “skater” mold, and we felt like that shouldn’t exist. We believe everyone belongs exactly as they are, no exceptions.

In 2021, going into our senior year of high school, we created CLOUDY, a skateboarding company built on being proactively positive. At first, it was simple designs that we thought were cool, but it’s grown into something much bigger. Our goal with CLOUDY is to change the way people see skateboarders, and the way skateboarders see each other. We serve the community by maintaining local skateparks and hosting events, teaming up with BYU and UVU skate clubs to celebrate each other and create a tight-knit community.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Short answer: yes — there have definitely been challenges. There’s been a lot we didn’t expect, from the growth of the skateboarding community in our hometown to learning the business side of things like working with manufacturers, all while figuring out where life is taking us.

One of the biggest moments came from the DIY skatepark in Bountiful. As the skate community grew, everyone rallied together and petitioned for an official skatepark. With overwhelming support from the community, that dream became a reality. Having a local skatepark completely changed the city’s view of skateboarding in such an uplifting way and opened people’s eyes to who skaters really are.

There have also been plenty of funny learning moments along the way. Recently, we bought our own heat press to print designs in-house. Our new hoodies use puff print, and while testing it out, Tyler decided to experiment on his own hoodies. Let’s just say they turned out really bad, way too much heat and pressure made them squished and wrinkled. We laughed about it for a long time, but it was a great learning experience.

Another challenge is that Tyler and Spencer now live in different cities for college. Managing inventory has been tough, especially since college apartments aren’t exactly spacious. We’ve learned to use any available space — closets, under beds, cars — everything has ended up repping CLOUDY.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about CLOUDY?
CLOUDY is a skateboarding company obsessed with positivity and inclusion. We create streetwear with a skateboarding foundation, hoodies, tees, crewnecks, pants, beanies, and more, but with bold colors and uplifting messages meant to promote kindness just by wearing them. Think neon tie-dye mixed with a skater vibe. You’re meant to stand out.

We recently finished a hoodie preorder where, for every five hoodies ordered, we gave away one complete skateboard to serve the community and spread love. We have also partnered with the non-profit Live Life Bigger on a collection called Kindness Matters, where proceeds support youth mental health education and resources.

There aren’t many skateboarding brands that put welcoming everyone as homies at the center of everything they do. That’s where CLOUDY comes in.

What makes you happy?
What truly makes us happy is service. We love helping people feel welcomed and like they’re part of something bigger. In December, we went to Salt Lake City and gave hoodies to people experiencing homelessness so they could stay warm during the winter. Seeing their smiles and gratitude made us so happy to see them happy.

We’ve also given away five complete skateboards to people who needed them, and seeing their faces light up has been incredible. That’s what drives us at the end of the day. Not just our love for skateboarding, but the unity and freedom it creates, and the huge potential it has to grow into something far bigger than itself.

We love seeing hope. We love seeing progress.
