Life & Work with Hanford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hanford.

Hello Hanford, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Thanks for reaching out! Post-covid butterflies left Andrew Tassell, (bass/guitar/vocals) and Wilson Corrigan, (bass/guitar/vocals), waiting for an excuse to start playing music for people other than themselves. While pursuing a degree in Music Recording Technology, Tassell became close friends with Ink, (drums).  Shortly after that, Ink had been kicked out of his parent’s house, and moved into Tassel’s second bedroom. Together, the boys would come to write and record a majority of the Hanford band’s “Self-Titled” EP.  While recording, Ink’s childhood friend Owen Eubank, (guitar) got introduced to Tassel and Wilson, and a musical partnership turned into close friendship before the summer of 2021 was over. Four very different kids, without taking themselves too seriously, had to figure out how to get along, create, and put themselves together after a period of time when none of us were allowed to go out and make new friends.

Just glad to be alive.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Until recently, our “practice space” was a storage unit in North Salt Lake with no heat, meth heads, an 8 pm curfew, and so little electricity we would short out the block of units at least twice a rehearsal. Things have been much easier now that Wilson has moved his in-home studio to an acre in Kamas, providing the band with enough space and farm animals to keep morale high.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
We are an alternative/indie-rock band, bringing progressive post-punk rock into a world of emo and folk-rock influence. We wrote and recorded our first (self-titled) full-length EP all on our own over the course of May-September 2021 in the hills of Kamas/Park City, Utah. Lots of our friends in the Salt Lake Valley do a great job of helping us with photography, marketing and graphic design but we do our best to leave our handprint on every inch of the work we put out. Together, we as Hanford. do our own video production, visual artwork; including album art and show posters. We also hand screen-print t-shirts, press buttons and made stickers to help fund our fun.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Thanks again for talking to us! Come to our show at Kilby Court July 26th! Be sure to follow us on Instagram @thehanfordband and download our EP on Spotify/Apple Music!
