Meet Brie Pereboom of Opal Hour Photo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brie Pereboom.

Hi Brie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Living in a state that has ranked last for women’s equality (according to a study from WalletHub), only adds fuel to my fire to continue empowering women in Utah. Being self employed, I have a deep admiration and respect for fellow female business owners. Many of whom wear multiple hats in their business, work multiple jobs to bring their dreams to fruition, and go home at the end of the day to continue working, AND be a full time parent and a partner. Their tenacity and determination to create something meaningful for their business, for their city, and for their family inspires me beyond words. These are the people who make Salt Lake City special and I’m always honored to help champion their work through branding photography.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Branding photography kind of found me. I didn’t plan to grow into this niche, but cheering on small business owners is something I care deeply about. Branding photography is a way that I can help to document and share their stories! I’ve been extremely blessed to be surrounded by hardworking creatives and business owners. I have a passion for self employment and personal development. Being able to share that passion and excitement with fellow entrepreneurs, who understand the grit that it takes to keep pursuing a non-traditional path of employment, is a really special friendship.

It’s easy to hype up women who are doing cool things in their business, especially when so many of these amazing women are so community oriented, and advocates for feminism, equality, and human rights. There’s still so much work to be done, but it feels so hopeful to have a community of hardworking humans, who support the same causes that I do.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Opal Hour Photo offers both boudoir and branding photography services. Boudoir has been a consistent pillar of my photography business, but the foundation for both my branding and boudoir services is to champion women and queer folks, by holding space for their self expression, self exploration, and storytelling. Whether this photography container is about their personal journey, their business journey, or a little bit of both, I love seeing clients utilize this space to be curious about themselves and their business offerings, and really explore their authenticity, through the photography experience.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Serendipity is one of my favorite things. It can feel really challenging to take so many trust falls with the universe, over and over again, but receiving special moments of serendipity feels like something beyond coincidence or “luck”. I definitely seek out these serendipitous moments by doing my best to follow my intuition. Sometimes it’s something completely random, like feeling inclined to go to a certain park, and then meeting a stranger and having a conversation around photography. Those spontaneous moments feel like an affirmation from the universe that I’m on the right path and it makes me feel incredibly blessed and inspired to keep going.
