Meet Michaun Torgersen of Spanish Fork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michaun Torgersen.

Hi Michaun, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Several years ago I was helping someone else with burial outfits for babies and decided to go on my own. I did this because I experienced a loss of my own about 27 years ago and there was more I wanted to do. I did a little here and there until I met up with a bereavement specialist with IHC. I made burial outfits whenever she needed them. Then the beginning of February of 2024 something inside me told me I needed to do more. I have chronic back pain which makes it difficult to sew for very long so I reached out to the Spanish Fork community. There were so many people willing to help. A reporter from KSL wanted to do a story about me. I was a little hesitant at first. So I created a Facebook page on February 14, 2024 and all the contact information that I would need before the interview. After the interview, the project went crazy. I had to find drop off locations throughout Utah for people to drop off dresses. I had to find Ambassadors to cover areas of Utah. It’s been a wild ride. As of today My Angel Baby Project is now in 8 states and South Africa. It officially became a 501c3 in May of 2025. I’ve done things I never thought I would be able to do. It’s been an incredible journey. One thing that I want every parent to know that experience a loss. Everything that we provide is free of charge.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This all started as a service project. I wasn’t looking into turning it into an actual nonprofit organization. So doing all the paperwork to become a 501c3 was hard. But it had to be done in order to get needed funding which has been the hardest part. I’ve had to pay for so many things myself. I have a hard time asking for money from people. I have struggled financially and I hate asking others for money. But that has been one of those things that my committee is working on is fundraising. Another struggle is my health. Chronic pain stops me a lot from doing everything that I really need to do. I’m trying to add to my committee in order to ease my work load.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I started sewing at the age of 8 and have been ever since. I love it! It is my passion. I have been a professional seamstress for over 25 years. I love designing and making quilts. My dream was to help design and make costumes in the big league, but my family came first and still does. I am known for making memory bears and other memory animals from loved ones clothing who have passed away. I have become proficient in digitizing people’s handwriting to put on the animals. I also teach sewing lessons in my home. I have a strong need to teach the next generation my skills and knowledge.
Other than sewing I love to sing, crochet, play the piano, fishing, go camping with my family.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I did acting in high school and loved it! My oldest son and I were able to be extras on the movie set of The Outlaw Trail. It was a long boring day but interesting. I had an appreciation for actors after that day.
