Today we’d like to introduce you to Jr Rivas.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a former professional Muay Thai/MMA fighter. I trained and competed for about 14 years. I have always been creative and tech-savvy. When I would compete, photographers would get pictures that amazed me in mid-action. I would say around then is when I decided to get my first DSLR camera. I practiced around my gym to get similar photos of my teammates.
Fast forward towards the end of my career, I bought a motorcycle and of course, me being competitive I retired from MMA and started racing motorcycles legally in closed courses. This opened my world to a whole new industry and took my camera everywhere I went. It was there where I really started making connections with people from all over the world. That led to more gigs anywhere from motorcycle shoots to shooting weddings of their owners lol I wasn’t expecting it but I took every challenge seriously and researched day and night to become the best photographer and videographer that I can be.
It has been 9 years since I picked up my first camera. Social media has definitely changed and I always continue to improve and keep up with the times. This is my passion, I always think outside the box to capture your vision or get your message across to your desired audience.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been smooth sailing as much as I wanted to this full-time, This industry is extremely saturated and was hard to get the ball rolling. But with consistency, I met many people in the industry perfected my craft and got the attention I needed to get clients.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in many looks of photography. I started with car shoots but always practiced other fields to be well-rounded. Anywhere from product photography to weddings!
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
The best advice II can give to anyone starting out or struggling in this field is, Find your niche and practice and perfect every aspect of that field. By doing that you will attract the audience you are aiming for.
