Rising Stars: Meet Prabhjot Bhatia of West Jordan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Prabhjot Bhatia

Hi Prabhjot, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born into an immigrant household that came from the Punjab region of India and I have always been influenced by that side of my personality in my work. I was raised in West Valley and then in West Jordan and bounced around myself all over the state from Bountiful to Cedar City. I always grew up watching movies and TV but it wasn’t until I was 21 years old that I thought that I could make it my career. Coming from an immigrant house we had to make sure that we could provide for and build our family as they sacrificed so much for us we had to make sure that we could give back. I started working in IT when I was 15 years old and was doing well in that field but a change happened after COVID-19 that made me reconsider and push for what I truly wanted in life and I always had the most enjoyment in my life when I was behind or in front of the camera. After making my first documentary in 2020 I knew that was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life I started over from scratch in my career and am hoping to make myself and my family proud.

In 2024 I officially started my production company Larger Than Media LLC. The mission of the company is to use the power of media to make a positive impact on people’s lives worldwide. Through our work, we strive to promote the values of peace, love, knowledge, and inspiration, connecting a global community that shares our vision. Whether we’re telling stories of everyday heroes or shining a light on critical issues, we’re committed to making a difference in the world through the stories we tell and the communities that we build. It all began with me wanting to show people that no matter where you are in the world we are all human and at the end of the day we all want similar things in life. No matter how hard the media tries to divide us deep down we are all more similar than we are different.

My goal with film and TV is to be an inspiration for those who think it’s not possible, to be someone who is infatuated with the medium and can look up and see me and know that it or anything is possible. To be a leader in the Punjabi community to push for more South Asian and raw stories. I hope to inspire someone in my life just like I was inspired as a kid by watching those who came before me!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Obstacles and challenges are a given for anyone pursuing their dreams, especially when starting as a one-person operation with hopes of expanding and bringing on talented editors and creatives. Funding and growth are ongoing hurdles, but beyond the logistical struggles, I often battle imposter syndrome. Without a formal film degree, just a minor in Documentary Studies I sometimes feel like an outsider in the industry, out of my depth and comfort zone. That, coupled with my own mental health struggles, including depression, can make the journey feel overwhelming.

Still, I push forward, driven by my passion for storytelling and the belief that what I create resonates with others. Through all of it, I remain deeply grateful for my family and support system. No matter how tough things get, I know I’ll be okay because I’m not in this alone.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
A lot of my work is currently in film festivals and not yet available for public viewing, but you can follow my journey on YouTube and Instagram! As we release and share these projects, you’ll be the first to know.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Finding a mentor is always hard and often in my life a process that I have tried to do many times. I have had a few different mentors in my life and the only thing I can say is to really do your best and be a decent person and someone will notice and try and help you!
